Becoming a SAY Referee is a great way to further your soccer experience and earn some money while doing something you love!
Soccer is a global sport and its rules must be interpreted and applied with absolute consistency wherever the game is played. IFAB, FIFA, US Soccer, and SAY Soccer have policies of ongoing training for its referees to ensure that refereeing standards continue to improve and the Laws of the Game are applied the same way everywhere.
As a member of both US Soccer and SAY Soccer, FC Dayton SAY Recreational Soccer shares this commitment to excellence and has decided to hold classes using USSF Certified Instructors/Mentors and the SAY Referee Program Curriculum, providing a lifelong path for new referees to grow their skills beyond our local soccer fields.
Designed as an entry-level program for youth referees who will be turning 13 years old (born in 2010), this training course qualifies students to officiate youth SAY Soccer Recreational matches. To pass the course, students will need to complete the online course materials, pass an online Referee Test with a minimum score of 80%, attend a session of classroom instruction, and a session of field instruction.
Once a referee has some experience and mentoring and is at least age 15, they may want to upgrade their certification to a SAY Certified Referee. The SAY Certified Referee class expands upon the content covered in the SAY Referee class and provides a more detailed understanding of the Laws of the Game, with a specific focus on Offside, Fouls, and Misconduct.
